Tobiume - Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture

I heard that "Tobiume" was flowering and went to see in Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. "Tobiume" is the plum tree and the sacred tree of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.

"The Legend of Tobiume"
The plum tree adored Michizane Sugawara, and he also. But he left Kyoto for relegation, so this plum tree and him got separated. Later this plum tree was chasing after him and flew to Dazaifu from Kyoto overnight. And the plum tree rooted here.

In addition, this plum is said to be 1,000 years old.

In the precincts of the shrine, a lot of plum trees have been planted. I heard that there are about 6,000 plum trees of about 200 varieties.
